James 1;22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
We all struggle at times listening. Whether it be to instructions for a job or concerns of a loved one. Our mind drifts to other places. It is not always intentional but we have difficulty truly listening. Ben Franklin coined the term, “A penny for your thoughts.” We treat others thoughts that cheaply at times.
What is worse if when we listen to what God tells us and we do not carry out his commands. We hear the words but do nothing with them. What benefit to us is that? We suffer loss of blessing and fellowship with Him over this.
What is it in life that you want to accomplish the most? Is it easy living on a beach? Is it climbing to the top of the corporate ladder? What we should want more than anything is a relationship with a God that loved us enough to sacrifice Himself for us. This is what His Word is all about.
He wants a relationship with us and He put the directions how to make that happen in the bible. Are we reading it? Are we listening to the words He has left for us? If not we are truly fooling ourselves.
