Numbers 21:8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live,”
The serpent is first talked about in Genesis 3. It represents Satan and sin. The serpent brought the temptation to Eve. Now we see the serpents biting the Israelite’s and killing them on their desert journey. They had sinned by grumbling against God after He delivered them in battle. Then He led them on a long journey through the desert resulting in the grumbling.
God commanded Moses to make a bronze snake and attach it to a pole. When the Israelite people were bitten, if they looked on the snake on the pole they would be healed and live. This story is known as a Christophany. It is an old testament picture of the coming Messiah. After they had sinned, God provided a way to be forgiven.
When Jesus was on the cross, all sin from all time was put on Him. He suffered for our sake by taking the venom from the sin we deserved. If you do not accept the gift and look to Jesus, spiritual death awaits. Do not delay, please seek and find Him today.
