Ephesians 6:17 And the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

The sword. The only offensive weapon mentioned in these verses. What is the sword of the Spirit? It is the word of God given to us through the scriptures. Now this particular sword spoken of here is referencing the short sword. That means up close and personal. That is how we are to be with the word.

How do we wield this weapon? In Isiah 49:2, Revelation 1:16 and Revelation 2:16 the sword went out from the mouth. This means the word was spoken and the effect was like a sword cutting. Hebrews 4:12 says the word is sharper than any two edged sword. This sword separates the soul and spirit. This is a very powerful weapon.

How did Jesus defend Himself after His forty day fast in the desert from satan? He used the word. If Jesus who is the Word; used the word, how much more should we? The only question left to ask. If you had to use the sword of the Spirit would you know how or even what to use?
