Luke 9:23 Then He said to them all, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.”
Are you seeking, asking and knocking? If so, what are you going after? Money? Cars? Whatever it is, it will never compare to Jesus! Why? Because what he offers is so far beyond the things we seek. They rust and fall apart. He loves us with an everlasting love. It will never go away.
How should we seek Him? We first have to deny ourselves. The pull of our wants is strong. We can touch it, smell it and taste it. This world is in our face twenty-four seven, three hundred sixty five days a year. But we have to resist the pull from these things. They will lead us to emptiness.
We are to crucify our wants and desires of our flesh. This is known as sin. Now let’s be real. Crucifixion is a terrifying thing. Hanging with nails in our flesh from wooden post. No this isn’t a pretty thought. But it speaks of the brutality that we need to display when fighting against sin. Sin is predatory, so the only response to it is crucifixion.
This is how we are told to follow Him. No this isn’t the pretty picture that we see on television from easy believism preachers. But it is the way in which Jesus calls us to follow Him. Are you ready? Do you know Him? Today is the day. Tomorrow is promised to no one!
