James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
Humble yourself. This is a hard command from the book of James. Not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less. We are called to think of the sin in our lives and people we have not helped. Then we are to ask forgiveness and repent.
What are some signs of a repentant person? Gratitude, modesty, service and a forgiving spirit are a few. These are only possible when we take the focus off of ourselves. If we are thinking of ourselves all the time, then how can we think of being forgiving? We can’t. We would only think of getting even.
How can we humble ourselves? Well, it isn’t truly possible unless we have a relationship with Jesus. People can act humble for short periods of time but without a relationship with the Lord, sin overwhelms. So we have to confess who we are to Him. Then He forgives us. When we have that then we can be the person He wants us to be.
Gods purpose is not to leave us like we are. No His purpose is to help us be more like Him. He loves us and wants us to live our best life. He lifts us up. He cleanses us from our sin. The only way He can do this is if we are humble enough to accept his gift. Today start with humility. Work on it and see how much closer you get to an Almighty God.
