Job 19:2 “How long will you torment my soul, and break me in pieces with words?
Sharp words make more wounds than surgeons can heal. This is an English proverb that has stood the test of time. No matter what you or I was taught as a child; words do hurt and they can destroy lives.
Job had lost it all, his family, his money and his health. Not by any doing of his own. He was known as a righteous man. God even called him righteous. He had everything taken from him for the glory of God. Satan went to a meeting with God and God pointed Job out to him. Job was called out for being a peculiarly good servant.
Satan used his words to try and slander God. He told God that Job was only that good because of his possessions and health. If God would take those away Job would cuss him and turn from Him. That is where all the trouble started. God allowed satan to take those things away. God was in control and only allowed satan to go so far but his life was turned upside down.
Enter Jobs so called friends. They used their words to injure Job further. They blamed Job for what was happening in his life. They were self righteous and hurtful with their words. Words can damage just as much or more than physical injury. Children walk around carrying great emotional pain from harsh words from parents. Men and women walk around in mental torment from mean words from their spouses.
Words are important. They can lift others up or drag them down. They can set young minds on a grand journeys for good. They can also make them spiral down into a life of shame. Choose your words wisely. Use them to uplift others.
