Luke 17:3 “Take heed to yourselves. If your brother sins against you, rebuke him; and if he repents forgive him.

There is an old human saying, “Fool me once shame one you, fool me twice shame on me.” Which means only offer forgiveness once then if forgiveness is offered you are a fool. This is not biblical.

Rebuking sin is our responsibility . We are to call it out when we are called to. This is how we keep each other accountable. But there is a second side to this.

When forgiveness is asked for, we a to give it. Jesus was asked should we forgive them seven times? Three times was the rule of the Jewish culture. So the question was asked, should we forgive them double plus one? Jesus answered seven times seventy.

Forgiveness is required for a person who wants to repent. Think of how many times we are forgiven by God in our lives. It would be way more than four hundred and ninety times. Follow the example given to us. Be willing to forgive.
