Revelation 2:4 NKJV — “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.”
Paul spent a lot of time in Ephesus. He helped start the church. He spent a long time discipling and teaching the church. But just a short time later, Jesus makes the above statement.
First love. What is Jesus saying here? What is the first love they had forgotten? The people in Ephesus were good church members. This isn’t the first love! They had good works. This isn’t the first love! They judged the apostles in their actions. This isn’t the first love!
The Person who should always be first is Jesus. Before our wives, children, parents, jobs, hobbies, church buildings, color of carpets, hymns, praise songs and our traditions. Jesus is first. If he isn’t, He has a problem with us.
I always like to take time and assess my life. If it doesn’t line up with Jesus being first, then I know I am wrong and repent. Take time today and take a long look at your life. If you can’t truly say Jesus is first, then it is time for repentance in your life.
